O'Connor Brothers Help Keep East Side Alive in State Tournament
Hudson, MA --- Brandon O'Connor and Brian O'Connor combined to go 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored as
East Side overcame an early 3-0 deficit to best Gloucester 7-3 at the Massachusetts American Legion State Tournament on Monday
afternoon. The Raiders (24-8) play again on Tuesday. Due to the tournament structure a time and opponent have not yet been determined
as of 6:30pm. Gloucester ends its season with a 16-5 record.
Gloucester had early success with a three-run first inning. The first three batters walked before a short delay to allow the grounds crew to
work on the mound. East Side hurler John Boyd then induced a pop up to first and struck out the next batter. With two outs Adam
Philpott drew a walk allowing a run to score. Phil DiMaio then connected on a 2-RBI single through the right side for the 3-0 advantage.
East Side put up four runs in the fourth. Steve Flynn's double to left brought in the first Raider run. Brandon O'Connor reached on a
Gloucester fielding error causing a pair of runners to score. Brian O'Connor drove his brother in on a double to left as Post 201 took the
lead.
The Raiders pulled away in the sixth. Brian O'Connor hit a run-producing-single to left for another RBI. Joey Consolmagno tripled in
the final two tallies of the contest.
Boyd surrendered three runs on four hits and struck out eight in six innings of work. Ysander Figueroa earned the save allowing one hit
and striking out two in the final three innings.
Jimmy Nicolosi shouldered the loss for Gloucester giving up six runs - two earned - on 10 hits and fanning three in 5 1/3. Shawn Hull
finished the game allowing one run on three hits and one strikeout.
At the plate Consolmagno and Brian O'Connor led the Raider lineup as each batted 3-for-4 day and recorded a pair of RBI. Figueroa hit
2-for-3 as Flynn and Brandon O'Connor went 2-for-4. Brian O'Connor drove in two runs as Brandon O'Connor crossed home plate twice.
Post 3's Jay Fulmer batted 2-for-4 and DiMaio produced a pair of RBI.
