East Side Opens Sectionals With Triumph at Westfield

Westfield, MA --- Ysander Figueroa and Steve Flynn each knocked in five runs including a grand slam by Flynn to lead No. 3 East Side
to a 19-3 victory over No. 2 Westfield its opening game of the 2011 American Legion Baseball Central-Western Mass. Sectional playoffs
on Sunday. With the win, Post 201 hosts No. 4 Chicopee-Aldenville at Gaskill Field on Monday. First pitch is slated for 4pm. Westfield
heads to No. 1 Northbridge for a 4:30 tilt.

After each team posted a pair of scoreless frames, East Side exploded with an eight run third.
Joey Consolmagno began the scoring with
a single through the right side. With the bases loaded,
Regan Aghdam was hit by a pitch for a RBI. Kyle Brenner then sent another hit
through the right side to bring in a pair of runs. Two more runs crossed home plate on a triple to right by Figueroa. Flynn reached on a
miscue to allow another run to score.
Mike Mastrototaro reached on a fielders choice to help the final run touch home.

Westfield lit up the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
Anthony Nomakeo doubled in Adam Mayhew,
who had tripled to center field. A sacrifice fly brought Nomakeo home to produce the second run. Post 124's final score came on a hit
through the left side by
Michael Sullivan.

East Side found 11 more runs in the sixth.
Dante Ricciardi drew a run-producing-walk for the first tally of the frame. Figueroa singled to
left center for another score. Flynn then launched a grand slam to deep right center to highlight the offensive barrage.
John Boyd touched
home plate on a wild pitch. Aghdam was issued the second RBI walk of the inning. Ricciardi helped create another run on a sacrifice fly .
Figueroa's second triple of the night drove in the final two markers.

Bryan Perez earned the win giving up three runs on nine hits in six innings and setting down five batters. Figueroa struck out the side in
the seventh.

Adam Chrzanowski, Nomakeo, Stephen O'Brien, Brendan Swords and William Smith each saw time on the mound for Westfield.  
Smith highlighted the staff by tossing a scoreless 1 2/3 allowing two hits and fanning three.

Post 201's Figueroa and Post 124's Mayhew led all batters with three hits. Finding success at the plate with a pair of hits  were Flynn,
Boyd and Westfield's
Brandon Kubik. In addition to Figueroa and Flynn, Aghdam, Brenner and Ricciardi each recorded a pair of RBI.
Consolmagno and Aghdam led with three runs scored as Figueroa, Flynn and Boyd each crossed home plate twice.
