Framingham's Win Over East Side Forces If Necessary Game
Worcester, MA ---Framingham's Kevin Lacy batted 2-for-4, including a home run, and picked up a save to lead Post 74 past host East
Side, 7-2, in the American Legion Baseball Massachusetts District 4 playoffs on Tuesday night. The win forces the if necessary game to be
played tomorrow night at Tivnan Field at Lake Park. The winner will join Northbridge and Leominster in the Central-Western Mass
Sectionals.
East Side and Framingham traded barbs early as each would score in the third inning. A single down the right field line by Tim Corey
brought in Post 74's tally. The Raiders run crossed home plate on a Kyle Brenner hit through the right side.
Framingham went ahead for good in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice put into play by Alex Owens.
In the top of the sixth, Post 74 added a marker on Lacy's blast to center field.
Post 201 responded in the home half of the stanza as Nate Frederick connected on a run-producing single down the right field line.
The visitors pulled away in the top of the seventh. Sean MacPhee touched home plate following a Post 201 throwing error. Two more runs
scored on a double to center field by Lacy. Robert Averill singled up the middle to help the final run advance home.
Averill earned the win as he allowed one run on four hits across 4 1/3. Lacy tossed the final 2 2/3 without allowing an earned run on two
hits and striking out four.
John Boyd fanned eight in the loss for East Side while surrendering seven runs - six earned - on seven hits in six innings of work. Cam
Frederick did not give up a run in relief.
Framingham's Kevin Murphy, Lacy and Averill along with East Side's Mike Mastrototaro and Frederick each had a pair of hits in the
contest. Lacy also ended up with three RBI and two runs scored.
